Another tip is to steer clear of overly touristy restaurants with menus translated into dozens of languages displayed outside. Often the best places are the simplest ones, perhaps tucked away down a side street, where the staff speak Italian amongst the tables and where the aroma of the kitchen can still be smelled from the doorway.
